My last night on this little excursion was in Jerilderie. Some might quibble that this is not in Victoria, but if that made no difference to that well-known Victorian Ned Kelly (whose visit in 1879 is made much of by the Jerilderie tourism sector) it is no difference to me for present purposes. The most prominent species were Little Friarbirds ( I found 2 nests), and the profusion of night-herons along the sluggish Billabong Creek made one feel like it was Canberra. However, you would know you were not in Canberra if you noticed the colour of the “Crimson” Rosellas feeding in the river gums. This pair exhibited the mate-feeding behaviour for which some parrot species are known. With several repeated regurgitations the process resembled feeding of young – except the feedee here is clearly an adult bird.
