Yes indeed, crimson rosellas do this (investigating hollows in brickwork or
drain pipes in buildings) often. I saw two of them simultaneously doing this
on two drain holes about 50 metres apart, on the front fascia of Tuggeranong
Hyperdome (beside Anketell St), on last Monday morning. I (personally)
haven't seen red-rumped parrots do this.

Not red-rumped parrots, but we've seen crimson rosellas, at this time of
year, investigating hollows in brickwork in a house in Manuka and also in
the old workshops at the top of Mt Stromlo prior to the 2003 fires.
