This fellow was photographed in October in Victoria 2010.  I was impressed at the time with his “red” bill.  Depends a bit on the light.  In the shade it was deep red, but in direct sunlight, paler.  Morecombe calls it “red”.

I did say maroon, Roger, but probably more deep pink.  Below from FSP in 2008 and somewhere or other when ducks were tamer in 2004.   I haven’t seen that colour on the current WBP birds.  The D. Duck similarity is subtly there, and seems to arise from the pointy head with a suggestion of a topknot and the exaggerated Superduck bill.

                    You were talking about the colour of the bill on the Freckled Duck being a (maroon/purple)colour,do you think the bird in the photo fits that description, or is the bill a more defined colour.
