Pied Cormorant Yerrabi Pond
Pied Cormorant (1) Sat very upright in water, long bill noticeable; first I've seen in the ACT for years - stood out immediately as much larger than Little Pied, neck whiter and longer, 'different' jizz.

Buff banded Rail Forde Pond
While looking for the Lewin’s Rail at Forde we found a Buff Banded Rail. It was in the spot west of the footbridge, first seen on the path and then in the lomandra near the waters edge. It had a large white eyebrow and buff band on the breast, so an adult Buff Banded. We also thought we heard another one up stream, but it may have been the same bird. No sign of the Lewin’s unfortunately.

Fri 24 Aug White-necked Heron Gungahlin Drive/Well Station Drive Intersection
A solitary adult White-necked Heron was present in the swampy area to the southwest of the Gungahlin Drive/Well Station Drive Intersection at lunchtime today.

Wed 22 Aug Lewin's Rail Lyall Gillespie Corridor Forde, between Tom Nicholas Cres & Alice Burrey St. west of footbridge.
Seen five times. 31/7 and 22/8 passing close on a bike. 1/8, 7/8 & 10/8 at distance with binoculars. Always at same spot, emerged from lomandra and foraged up to 2m. on mown grass. Excellent views from side, front and back. Bill long and thin. Head & nape rust colour, no white band above eyes, no banding on the chest, but banding on the belly. Back an oily bronze colour, with creamy scallops on the edges of feathers. No spotting like the Buff-banded Rail. Behaviour similiar to B-bR. Overall colour is a khaki brown not as speckled and garish as B-bR. Two photos taken at a distance.
