Took a six-am trip out to the ponds and the wetlands today. Mostly pretty quiet, but managed a total of 35 species nonetheless.
Birds seen were: Black Swan Australian Wood Duck Australasian Shoveler (2 or 3 pair on the sewerage ponds, the first I have seen in a long while) Grey Teal Pacific Black Duck Hardhead The much debated Blue-Billed Ducks Australasian Grebe Hoary Headed Grebe Rock Die Crested Pigeon Little Pied Cormorant Little Black Cormorant (is it me or are there lots more than usual this year?) Great Egret Intermediate Egret White Faced Heron Nankeen Night Heron (perhaps one of this seasons young, not fully coloured) Australian White Ibis Purple Swamphen Dusky Moorhen Eurasian Coot Black Fronted Dotterels (lots on the drying-mud pond at the sewerage
works) Sulphur Crested Cockatoo Crimson Rosella Red Rumped Parrot Superb Fairy Wren White Browed Scrubwren Yellow Rumped Thornbill Noisy Miner Black Faced Cuckoo-Shrike Australian Magpie Magpie Lark Red-Browed Finch House Sparrow Australian Reed Warbler And we also head masked lapwings, but couldn't see them
