New Association formed

The Ginninderra Falls Association, formed to pursue the objective of a new national park incorporating Ginninderra Falls and part of the Murrumbidgee River, held its inaugural meeting on 14 February 2012 and elected Chris Watson as its first president plus three other officeholders and five committee members. The full committee met for the first time on 23 February and among other matters discussed, decided to write to the Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher, seeking a meeting to discuss the proposal. This follows a statement by her spokesperson that Ms Gallagher ‘would be happy’ to meet with us.

The Committee also made arrangements for free public events at the CSIRO Discovery Centre, Clunies Ross Street, Acton ACT, on Friday, 9 March at 6 pm and Thursday, 15 March at 7 pm. Dr Bryan Pratt, a committee member, will give a public lecture about the falls and their importance on the Friday, preceding the opening of an exhibition of paintings of the falls by Dr Dirk Bouma. Then on the Thursday, there will be a panel discussion about the falls involving Doug Finlayson, David Hogg and Mark Lintermans. The vice president of the Conservation Council of the ACT, Professor Ian Falconer, will chair the discussion.

Graeme Barrow (on behalf of the committee)
