Last week I was loitering in a small copse behind crowded Pambula beach and standing stock still when a pilot bird emerged and gleaned its way diligently in a semicircle around me about a yard away; astonishing; since I’ve only seen them by careful hunting deep in Monga n pk or other sequestered spots until now; but was surprised to discover that I /we were both `on range’;

OTFs being other flying things, I am sad to report that fruit bats have arrived in my suburb; ate all the nectarines while we were away; were observed by a neighbour.
