Tue 6 Dec Lewin's Honeyeater Majura Firing Range
Barbara Allan and myself, in company with the Defence environmental officer surveyed the Majura Firing Range sites on a sunny, still, bright and cheerful Tuesday morning last week. Most eucalypt species were flowering profusely, although most flowers appeared to be a little bit past their best. Even so, as usual we didn’t turn up too many honeyeaters apart from the usual suspects of Red Wattlebirds, Noisy Friarbirds and Noisy Miners. Except of course for the two Lewin’s Honeyeaters Barbara spotted at subsite 3 and the Yellow-faced HE I heard at subsite 8. \

Sun 27 Nov Crescent Honeyeater Chapman
A surprise visitor to my GBS in Chapman over the past few days has been a male of the above, calling very loudly and proving easy to find without binos several times early mornings. Last records here this year were a couple in August consistent with their usual late winter/early spring departure, though in 2004 they were present and very noisy just up the road round Bruce Lindenmayer’s place well into December.
