Yesterday at Bogong Creek in Namadgi I observed a group of brush cuckoos. They were making their distinctive 'group' call as described by Pizzey as wild, rising, shrill, repeated phrases. These cuckoos are reported to exploit flycatcher and grey fantail nests; both these species were observed nearby. I also had the delightful experience of having fantails fly within a foot of me on several occasions.
