Brush Cuckoos in Namadgi

This species was much more noticeable this year during our blitz surveys on 29 October in the Cotter Hut area than it had been for the last 5 years or so.

Yesterday at Bogong Creek in Namadgi I observed a group of brush cuckoos.  They were making their distinctive 'group' call as described by Pizzey as wild, rising, shrill, repeated phrases. These cuckoos are reported to exploit flycatcher and grey fantail nests; both these species were observed nearby.  I also had the delightful experience of having fantails fly within a foot of me on several occasions.
