Maybe mud-nests are a considered a great option by some of these birds. The Morcombe Guide that includes typical nest pictures shows Tawny Frogmouths as having a loose nest made of sticks, but I guess they're opportunists. In both pictures, the nest looks OK for eggs, but far too small to accommodate a growing family of fledglings.
