Not only did I get close to a buff-rumped thornbill (4.5 metres, in fact) but there were several in an inquisitive party that looked me over.  Now, I should be able to identify one myself.  Unless, of course I am wrong about this one.  That pattern around the eyes  and just above the beak seems to be distinctive.
