Well they arn't literally exploding. But last night in Batemans Bay on dusk I counted 268 fly over Woolies to roost in the tall gum trees near the visitors centre. Compared to maybe 10 years ago, when 30 was a big number, and 20 years ago when any observation seemed exciting.
Within the flocks you get up to about 10 galahs, and small groups of sulphur crested (ie 5) every so often. They seem to follow the main coast road within The Bay, mainly feeding in grassy areas and ovals. So although I heard large flocks they didnt fly over the Hostel (up the hill near the Petrol station), but did fly over the Water gardens/wetlands. So I havent actually recorded them where I have been birding. But they are very common in The Bay.
