Thank you everyone for your help with the juvenile blackbird.  I was certainly wrong about this one.

G'day Margaret,
 
  My assessment is that you have shot a young male Blackbird. Immatures have the brown feathers as evidenced on the top half of the bird. The dark feathers at the lower part of the body indicate it is moulting to the male plumage.

Subject: [canberrabirds] Help with ID please

I shot this at the Jerrabomberra wetlands this evening.  It was a long way off and the light all in the wrong place, so, with apologies, this frame was the best of a terrible batch.  Judging by the silvereyes and Euro goldfinches that were around at the time, I would say this was the size of a blackbird, or even a little bigger.  It’s got me puzzled.
