Hi all
I returned from the south coast on Saturday, having spent a week vacationing in
Mollymook.
Some limited birding partly due to weather. I attempted to get onto Little
Forest Plateau but the tracks were too wet so only got as far as Pointers Gap
lookout.
I did visit South Pacific Heathland Reserve in Ulladulla. The reserve has
bounced back well since a fire a couple of years ago. Highlights were a vocal
pair of Glossy Black-Cockatoos and two separate groups of Southern Emu-wrens -
a male/female pair in the windswept sandy Heath overlooking the ocean and two
males/two females some 100 meters from the entrance along the main Old Coast Rd
track. The resident Variegated Fairy-wrens were in evidence too.
On the drive back to Canberra I stopped along Misty Mountain Rd at Sugarloaf
Ck. Birds here included Black-faced Monarch and Brown Gerygone. Earlier where
Lyons Rd crosses Currowan Ck in Currowan SF I recorded Variegated Fairy-wren,
Lewins Honeyeater, Wonga Pigeon and a pair of Glossy Black-Cockatoos quietly
chewing on casuarina cones.
