On Sat 28 Jan there were a few Rainbow Bee-eaters in a one km stretch
of the Naas River to the east of the Big Naas homestead. 7adults and
3 juveniles. One pair of adults were each carrying what looked like
large bees. In quick succession they delivered the food round a
corner to either a chick in a burrow or outside on a perch, so a
breeding record.
NB There had been a flood in the Naas before Xmas, and debris can be
seen up to 10 metres. Any burrows below that level would have been
flooded, and chicks drowned. Question - where would any surviving
adults go? And what will this season's breeding records show for many
bird species in flooded Queensland, western Victoria et al.?
