From some conversations I have had with long time Canberra residents i thought it likely that some (hopefully many) members of this line would not have been born when the Kelly's moved on.  I haven't been able to prove this but on Googling the topic I came up with http://www.hsoc.org.au/Articles/COMMERCIAL_VEGETABLE_GROWING_IN_THE_ACT.PDF which was rather interesting in terms of the history of the Pialligo/Fyshwick/Duntroon area generally.

I was particularly taken with the comment "There was talk that the use of pesticides could destroy bird populations, and yet a professor of ornithology from the ANU was a frequent visitor to the Hill farm because of the large and diverse population of birds."  I wonder who the professor was?

Co-operation is one thing.  Sharing is another.  In the below snap you might notice 2 things, among others.  One is a cormorant.  The other is a small fish in possession of Mr E.  As soon as the egret got the fish the cormorant lunged at the larger bird perhaps hoping to cause a fumble, having recently been watching the Australian cricket team, and the egret was off.  It didn’t stop for a swallow until it was 20 metres away.  A hungry LPC can show some spirit.  Incidentally, Kelly Swamp is named for the farmer who had the lease and lived in a house on the site of the present educational centre.  My next-door neighbour was at school with the Kelly boys, so not all that long ago.
