I am far from expert, but as with most waders there can be
a lot of variation within species for different reasons, even bill

Subject: [canberrabirds] Re: Shorebird id help sought
Thanks
to all who responded.
The
most popular suggestion was Sharp-tailed Sandpiper but the one I have settled
on after further investigation is Red Knot.
Clearly
I need to spend more time on the beaches and lakes of the far south coast and
if that's the burden I have to bear to increase my shorebird experience then I
am willing to bear it.
