Yesterday my attention was drawn skywards to observe 3 Brown Goshawks soaring over my GBS site. It was soon apparent that two were a pair I have observed a couple of times recently while the third was an interloper who soon took the hint and headed off towards the Hoskinstown Plain.
This morning I went to the Plain myself to see what was around. The first sighting of interest was a loose flock of 62 magpies feeding in a largish paddock. I presume the recent dampness has generated a lot of food in the swampy paddock. A flock of 25 European Goldfinches demonstrated why their collective noun is 'a charm' while a smaller group of Double-barred finches called frmo some nearby cypresses. Other sightings of birds less common out here were an Australian Shelduck departing from some spilt horse feed and 6 Red-rumped Parrots.
