Correction: my "peregrine" yesterday was a Brown Falcon, as kindly pointed out to me by list members.
My instant id was biased by my interpretation of the, to my eye, very bold, facial marking and colouring, and  the impression of a slaty grey back,  perhaps resulting from looking at it into the sun. It flew off very fast and downward out of sight so I missed other indicators.

On road further on towards Tidbinbilla (in the pine plantings area), a Kestrel, and, surprisingly to me, a Peregrine (atop a young pine tree but letting us stop the car to watch briefly-directly into sun).
