On the way
out to Tidbinbilla this morning during a quick stop at Casuarina
Sands
(Cotter), I saw briefly a small bird high in a bare tree at a
distance - only
had time for a v. poor photo. Ild be grateful for any likely ID
suggestions (some form
of honeyeater?)
Other birds
seen: a male Flame Robin at Casuarina Sands, and a W-f Heron.
On road
further on towards Tidbinbilla (in the pine plantings area), a
Kestrel, and, surprisingly
to me, a Peregrine (atop a young pine tree but letting us stop
the car to watch briefly-directly
into sun).
At
Tidbinbilla, Welcome Swallows were hard at work nest-building in
the Visitors
Centre porch, while two were briefly inspecting the front wheel
of a parked car…for
what?
Within
Tidbinbilla, a pair of WtEagles circling, another pair of
unidentified smaller
raptors v. high.; at the Wetland Sanctuary area, several
White-naped
Honeyeaters at blossom, a flock of Striated Thornbills, a few
Red-Browed Firetails; a
number of water birds (Magpie Geese-one on nest, Swan on nest,
Pacific Black
Duck with two v. yng ducklings, male Musk Duck etc).
On the way
out just past the Rock Valley Homestead, the large grassy area
was dotted with
a large flock (40+?)of Dusky Woodswallows (grazing for
something?),and intermixed
with a largely low flying flock of what I think were Tree
Martins.
Glimpse of what looked like a O-b Oriole chased by a magpie in
mistletoe-festooned gum beside road.
