On my way up to the Pinnacle this afternoon I spotted a group of 5
Superb Parrots in one of the trees in front of Hawker College (an E.
Mannifera). On closer inspection, the group consisted of one adult male
and four immatures/females.
Up at the Pinnacle things are in full swing. The Dusky Woodswallows are
back, Yellow-rumped, Buff-rumped and Striated Thornbills all feeding
young, V. Sittellas putting the finishing touches on their first nest of
the season (they built 3 last year and finally used the last one), Tawny
Frogmouths sitting happily despite the stormy weather and falling trees
all over the place, and a pair of Scarlet Robins with a single chick
that fledged about 10 days ago (not seen since the heavy rains,
however). Also, a group of around 6 Diamond Firetails and yet another
White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike, light-morph this time, the call rather
reminiscent of a lorikeet and very different from that of the BFCS,
which are also now loitering with intent.
