Hi Neville,

Bit of a long shot suggestion on what you have told us, but consider Owlet Nightjar. Try google 'owlet nightjar', find a call, play it and tell us if it helps you. Another possibility is juvenile Boobook.

Subject: [canberrabirds] A Query

Dear All

For the last few weeks in the early morning there is a bird in the trees next to our house which has a call like a (very loud) cricket.  Being still dark, I can't see it, but it seems to go on to make lots of other (different) calls.

Does anyone know what it could be?

Thanks

Neville Potter
