Hi. The cockies have been doing this around Watson. We find it happens most years. The Oaks that line our street have been exuding some sort of sticky substance for months and have attracted flying foxes, heaps of insects as well as the cockies. My sister suggested that it is probably aphids that are creating the sticky stuff. Not sure if that is true. The front yard is a mess of nipped off leaves and everything is sticky, including the front door!

Cheers

Kathy and John

There have been many white cockies in the English Oak trees that line Macgregor Street in Deakin. They have been snipping off the leafy tips of the trees, then passing the tips through their beaks. Some people suggested the birds were "sharpening their beaks", but when I had a closer look, I found a sticky substance on the back of the leaves that the birds may have been trying to lick off. Has anybody heard of, or seen cockies doing this?
