Hi Charmian,
There are two issues; the first would be a synthesis of chat-line
observations that could be produced as an item in Gang-gang. This has been
done in the past by Greg Ramsey when he needed space to be filled in the
newsletter but nothing has been done on a regular basis. I would envisage a
monthly report on bird sightings taken from the chat-line and submitted to
Gang-gang. There would need to be consultation with the Gang-gang editors
on the size of the report but in general it could be quite small. It needs
to be remembered that the chat-line is archived and can be retrieved in the
future so any reports would not need to be very detailed.
The second is the problem of bird observations reported on the chat-line
that are not then submitted to the database by the observer either through
the on-line data entry system or through COG record sheets available through
the web or at monthly meetings. This would require someone taking each
report off the chat-line and submitting the record to the COG database.
Essential information required would be observer name, location, species
name and number seen, all of which is normally reported in the chat-line
posting.
If there is anyone who may be interested in either/both tasks please contact
me for further details (email: telephone:
