The Restless Flycatchers I reported in April are
still around. I followed a call to a tree (a fairly dense red box) about
10 m SW of the dam at the end of Kathner St Chapman at 16:40 to find it had
joined another one already there. Certainly from their behaviour they
seemed to be preparing to roost, this was the area one was most often seen last
year once it stopped roosting in my neighbour's tree.
As I was watching these my attention was drawn to
at least 20 woodswallows circling and feeding a couple of hundred metres
overhead. The seemed to be drifting NNE, but suddenly all dived down into
a large eucalypt on the other side of the dam, where they conveniently sat high
on the dead branches allowing me to confirm 22 Dusky Woodswallows. I
suspect they will also roost in the area (I caught them early one morning
in April doing so nearby).

PS The Crescent Honeyeater has been present
and conspicuous by its call in my garden all week, and I suspect has been
roosting in another neighbour's garden as it has started calling there before 7
am. It is however, quite mobile and visits other food sources (flowering
banksias, grevilleas and mugga ironbark etc) in the general area, so cannot be
guaranteed at any one time. Based on it regular presence pre-fires, I
expect it may stay until about September if these food sources
persist
