Three intrepid souls hiked the red track at Bungonia State Conservation Area on Saturday. This track descends steeply for some 450 m and then follows Bungonia Creek through the narrow slot canyon before ascending back to the starting point.

Birding highlights were a Rockwarbler foraging among shale on a scree slope only 100 m down the track, several vocal Lewins Honeyeaters and Brown Gerygones in the gorge, the unafraid resident Superb Lyrebirds, Fan-tailed and Shining Bronze-Cuckoos, Wonga Pigeons and a pair of soaring Wedge-tailed Eagles.

Cheers
Marnix
