We have headed north for a few days and have been walking in the Border
Ranges and Nightcap National Parks. Apart from the usual scrub turkeys,
spinebills, wrens etc we have seen a family of Rufous Scrub-Birds, a
Golden Whistler, a Lewins Honeyeater, a Pale Eastern Robin or 2 and a
pair of Whip-Birds having a barney on the track right in front of us! We
also saw 2 other birds that we are having trouble identifying - they
were slightly smaller than the Rufous Scrub-Birds with the same basic
dark brown colouring but with a red-brown throat. Their tails were much
shorter than the Scrub Birds tails and they had 2 quite distinct -
darker brown/black - lines along their wings. They weren't as timid as
the Scrub-Birds - just ignored me and kept rummaging about in the leaf
litter. Any suggestions??
Thanks
Jenny Rees
