Thanks for the suggestions and the photos - definitely possible! I only really got a good look at one of the birds and it could well have been a female log runner and maybe even a young one - now I've had a good look at the book we have with us. I didn't get as good a look at the second bird and it was quite dark where they were - deep in the rainforest.

I'm also inclined to Geoffrey's suggestion.

     We also saw 2
other birds that we are having trouble identifying - they were slightly
smaller than the Rufous Scrub-Birds with the same basic dark brown colouring
but with a red-brown throat. Their tails were much shorter than the Scrub
Birds tails and they had 2 quite distinct - darker brown/black - lines along
their wings. They weren't as timid as the Scrub-Birds - just ignored me and
kept rummaging about in the leaf litter. Any suggestions??
