Well, soon after I arrived at the camping site on Friday morning, the early scouting party got back and reported a possible Barking Owl that Julian had already set off to photograph so I went off with the orchid-hunting Charles to find THAT spot.  Julian was there trying to snap a lofty owl that had moved up from a more exposed lower spot.  My distant snaps of a mostly obscured owl weren’t any good but I did manage to get a shot of Julian in action.  Later his excellent shots of Mr O were enough to show a boobook.  Meanwhile Charles was finding small orchids all over the place, the most prominent being the one shown below.

 

Also on  the matter of vegetation, the prevailing medium shrub was everywhere in flower with its small pale-violet bottle-brushes.  I have no doubt most of you will know the name of this one.
