Yes that is one of the problems with applying categories designed for
breeding stages of passerines to that kind of bird. It does not really
work.

A pair of Masked Lapwings with DY (should one call newly hatched 
lapwings dependent - they don't seem to be so) in our work compound at 
Weston. This is the third or fourth time that I've seen them breed 
successfully here in the past few years.
