Had a pleasant ramble at Mulligans Flat today. Most notable were large numbers of Olive-backed Orioles. Many were foraging for caterpillars on the ground, something I have not witnessed previously. Pallid, Horsfiled's Bronze- and Fan-tailed Cuckoos were calling all across the reserve. Western Gerygones were vocal in several places and several pairs of Jacky Winter were holding territory. Red-capped Robins were also foraging busily in some of the scrubby areas. Four Little Lorikeets flew over the ridge to the northwest of the large dam and, on my out, 15 Superb Parrots flew over the carpark. I only saw a couple of Dusky Woodswallows and several White-plumed Honeyeaters all day. Brown, Buff-rumped and Yellow-rumped Thornbills were clearly engaged in breeding activity.
Overall, it felt as though spring has come a little too early AGAIN!
