A non-breeding/ immature male Rufous Songlark at Nth Curtin Horse paddocks this morning. It was silent unlike the 4 at Weddin Mtns calling on 14th Aug. I'd say they are early returns possibly triggered by warm Aug  in nthn NSW/QLD.
Willie Wagtails returning with six yesterday and  five today.

cheers
Richard

[canberrabirds] Rufous Songlark

A bit of a surprise this morning was a Rufous Songlark around the edge of the Aranda ovals. Not singing, just skulking, but when flushed it sat obligingly in the low branches of a dead tree. I don't think of this species as normally being here in August, but unless they are singing they are easily overlooked - or maybe it overwintered.

cheers
