Phil When this topic (ie unexpected koel calls) was previously raised on the chatline (http://bioacoustics.cse.unsw.edu.au/archives/html/canberrabirds/2008-03/msg00178.html) and (http://bioacoustics.cse.unsw.edu.au/archives/html/canberrabirds/2007-01/msg00135.html) the answer was pied currawong calls. We had one Eastern Koel in Carwoola (near Christmas 2007): it didn't hang around long - to the pleasure of tour neighbours whose property it was both seen and heard in. Also the location is not, as the cuckoo flies, very far from Southern Canberra and about level with N Kambah.
