Dear all
I took another look at the nest today and decided it was an old one
that the female Satin Bowerbird was maybe checking in passing. The
leaves decorating the outside are old and brown, and there was no
activity during the 1+ hrs survey today. Maybe it could be used again
in the coming breeding season? Here are the directions:
It is in section 191d.
If you go up the southern side of the Sydney Gully towards the main
Crescent HE activity there is a white signboard pointing to the
Glasshouse Display. A few metres up the path beyond that is another
sign 'Forests by the Sea' . Behind that notice is a 3-trunked tree
with some dead liana on it. The nest is in an upright fork about 4-5
m up on the left-most trunk. There is some fine dead creeper hanging
in front of it.
GPS reading S 35 16.439 E 149 06.526
Please do keep an eye on it Geoffrey.
There is one Crescent HE that likes the path junction further on
where there is a small euc. (Gregsonia?) with some blossom, next to a
large grevillea/callistemon. You can get a good view going down from
the large semi-circular wooden bench further up, and the bird
sometimes goes down to ground level foraging inside the thickets
opposite, where the other bower-birds were in the banksias on Thurs.
Happy sightings tomorrow!
