Dear readers

Shirley Kral, who is not on the chatline, has asked me if I would contact members who have Bushnell Excursion binoculars.  On yesterday's outing to Finch Central, everyone who owns these binoculars said they thought the optics were great (considering the very reasonable price) but the method of attaching the strap to the binocular body is  sub-standard - in fact, not fit for the purpose as it breaks very easily.  No one had an intact pair of Bushnells. Mine lasted about 3 months before the lugs wore out.  Bintel sent me replacements free of charge but they didn't last any longer and then the oval ring on the binocular body (where the lugs clip in) split so that the whole mechanism fell out.  (Only people who own these binoculars could possibly understand what I am talking about.)  Bintel replaced the binoculars but when exactly the same thing happened with the next pair, there was no offer of a replacement pair or a refund.    I wrote to Bushnell USA but received no reply.   I am currently using them with gaffer tape holding them together and others I know are using them as hand-held binoculars because they can't attach the strap.

Shirley is prepared to take this matter to the Australian Consumers Asssociation.  So far she has the names of  at least 6 COG members who have experienced the same problem.  So, if you own  or have owned Bushnell Excursions, it would be much appreciated if you would reply stating whether you have had similar problems - or not.

many thanks
Sue
