Real Canada begins at 60 North!  I'd suggest that Sibleys Field Guide to Birds of Western North America http://www.sibleyguides.com/sibley_western.htm would be the go.  A bit more modern than Peterson.  For buying it, any bookstore worthy of the name in a major town in Canada or the US would have it.  The Barnes and Noble web site lists it at about $US 16, and if you have a Canadian address to which it could be shipped you could order it online and have it waiting for you!

Dear All

In October this year I am going to be in Canada - British Columbia, Alberta
and Manitoba - and I wondered if anyone can suggest a good field guide to
the birds of that region.  Suggestions about where I might purchase same
would also be welcome.

Best regards

Anne
