Fyshwick SP at about 12 today had immature Collared
Sparrowhawk (female, judging by the size) and immature Peregrine Falcon. One of
each. The Sparrowhawk was perched on the wires near the lower gate (opposite the
entrance to the Kelly's car parking area) where it was being mildly harassed by
Magpies and Ravens and the Peregrine caused a commotion by overflying ponds 6
and 4 and was then perched quietly in a tree on the eastern edge of pond
2.
The ponds themselves had a pair of Swans, plenty of
Grey Teal and a few Black Ducks, quite a few Hardhead and Shoveler, about 10
Pink-eared Ducks, 3 male Blue-billed Ducks and also 2 of the same species that I
am pretty sure were immatures (markedly smaller in size and a light grey body
colour rather than the darker grey brown that the females usually show), 5 male
and 7 female Chestnut Teal and a fair-sized collection of Hoary-headed and
Australasian Grebes - probably about 60/40 H-h:Aust, although that's an
impression rather than any sort of rough count.
