On the subject of YTBC's and White-tailed (now Carnaby's and Baudin's) Black
Cockatoos' association with human-originated events, I have a particularly
vivid memory of looking out the window at Christ Church Grammar School in
Claremont WA on November 24 1963, the day President Kennedy was shot in
Dallas (where it was the 23rd) and seeing for the first time in my ten pound
Pom experience of 3 months, these wailing black cockatoos vividly expressing
the emotions that were running through the classroom at the time...
Wonderful memory but not necessarily connected with the events except in my
mind.

I've certainly noticed a lot more YTBCs in the suburbs over the past week or
two than I would normally expect. I've seen and heard them several mornings
running while cycling up through Red Hill to Mugga Way, I've heard them over
our offices at Weston half a dozen times in that period, and when I was
cycling home on Monday there was a flock of about two dozen in Curtin near
the intersection of Cotter Rd and McCulloch St.

I wondered at the time I saw the two dozen whether they had come into the
suburbs because of smoke from bushfires.
