Do ducks poo in the water? Yes I know that spoonbills and other waders do. Some years ago we saw a wood (maned) shed 9 ducklings from under her wings t the ANBG. She then toddled off with a line of ducklings behind her and dad in the rear.

A David Attenborough TV show, last week showed a segment on a mandarin duck. Her nest was very high in a tree. She flew down and 9 ducklings followed her, tiny wings spread, wearing down, no feathers, and said to be only 24 hours old. They has a soft landing of rotting leaves. Mum waited for all 9. How did she know that the 9th was the last one, that she had them all? What if she had left 1 behind? They then followed her to the nearest water

I would also like to see Paul's photo. Has the duck manage to look after the 17? Where was the other parent, her mate, and the other parents?

Elizabeth
