Excellent report!! Is this the first record of the post copulation end of breeding of this species in the ACT? Looking back through a few ABRs I can only find a copulation record from Turner last year, nothing else. Which Suburb was it in? It also solicited from passing Noisy Miners, who showed some interest. The koel's begging call was similar to that of a young wattlebird but seemed a little different — louder and sharper. The miners' interest made me wonder whether koels are programmed to make a generic begging sound that works on several species. |
