Koel fed by wattlebirds

Excellent report!!

Is this the first record of the post copulation end of breeding of this species in the ACT? Looking back through a few ABRs I can only find a copulation record from Turner last year, nothing else.  Which Suburb was it in?

This morning I found a young Koel begging from and being fed by Red wattlebirds. It also solicited from passing Noisy Miners, who showed some interest. The koel's begging call was similar to that of a young wattlebird but seemed a little different — louder and sharper. The miners' interest made me wonder whether koels are programmed to make a generic begging sound that works on several species.

It stayed in one eucalypt for a while, begging, then flew back to what I took to be its nest in a neighbouring tree (see pic). After more feeding in the nest, it then flew into a low bush in a nearby backyard and began helping itself to plums. It was characteristically shy of photography.
