Following yesteday's crash into the Hudson the New York Times has hosted this article about birdstrike and planes. It may be of interest to members of the list. http://roomfordebate.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/16/dont-blame-mother-nature-for-the-crash/ As usual, the comments range from the interesting to the insane. My favourite - hopefully humorous, otherwise well into the insane wavelengths of the spectrum- is "I say capture some geese, waterboard them, find out who the chief geese are , and then invade Iraq."
