On New Years Day, there was one immature (but well grown) White-faced Heron lying quietly on the east bank of Nerang Pool in Commonwealth Park, only a metre or two from the path. In the western part of the Pool (the Lily pond part) there was a Masked Lapwing watching over two very small foraging chicks.
