A late report from the previous weekend (16 Nov.):
Lake Bathurst system again completely dry. Whatever rain we had in recent times
is not enough to make a difference.
Of note: 2 Cattle Egrets and at the Tarago tip 2
Rufous Fantails, one spent most of its time in pine trees. Grassland birds were
represented just by Australasian Pipits (and a single White-fronted Chat,
although the latter more common in October, incl. several birds carrying food).
No Brown or Rufous Songlarks, no Singing Bushlarks (have only one October record
from within a property to which I normally do not have access). It may have to
do something with the drought, but another reason may be that the favourite
sites for Brown Songlark and Singing Bushlark in the past in this area - oat
paddocks - are largely absent or in very poor shape this season.
On a more positive note, a couple of farm dams with
pairs of Australasian Grebes with young.
