The Ainslie (Corroboree)  Frogmouths were present on 9 November, but had gone by the 10th (and I haven't seen any of the family since). If Lindell's obs on 18/10 in fact caught the first hatching, thats only 22 days. But the first hatching may well have have been a few days earlier as I first saw one adult apparently on the nest on 10 September and incubation is said to be 28-32 days. Michael Lenz noted to me that the chicks looked well developed in the few days before the 9th.

Last year according to my semi-regular observations, the two fledglings remained with the parents in and around the park much longer until at least 2 December. (with one of the new fledglings spending a precarious morning percehd on a green recycling bin fallen over beside the road). Then they all disappeared until 2 adults resumed regular appearance in early March 2008.

According to HANZAB the fledging period in captivity is 25 - 35 days while Nest Record Scheme has 30-32 days.

I have just returned from my 'weekly' visit to Corrobee Park and was surprised to see that the parent Frogmouths and chicks had all gone.
I was concerned that they may have been harassed into leaving as I noted a football stuck high up in a nearby tree. What is the usual time from hatching to fledgling? - the little 'fluff-ball' I had photographed on my first visit there was taken on 18/10/08. and the last photo taken on 8/11/08 showed them nowhere near as mature as the one in the old Chough's nest at Campbell Park. Any ideas?
