Thanks all for the info that this is a well-settled breeding population.  My lot  were actually about 100m west of Sullivans Ck when I saw them.  I was looking for nests of any type as I was riding (not a great technique) but didn't see any.  Might try by kayak if the weather suits next Friday.  Like Martin, I also looked for Bitterns etc briefly at Acacia Inlet and found only a Dollarbird, a HB-cuckoo feeding on insects and lots of gentlemen materialising in cars apparently keen on checking out my very ordinary bicycle.  It was extremely offputting.

Julian, this is the recent hot spot for LBC.  The COG boat trip I organised for 29 March this year saw about 150 of them on the E side of Black Mountain (see May Gang-gang), with about 75% and over 30 nests only a few 100 metres W of Sullivans Creek.

They could be nesting here again, though much earlier this year.  Is anyone with a canoe able to check?  They are notoriously difficult to see from the adjacent bike path.
