I had a quick snuffle through the whistling pines (I'm no longer game to say if they are casurinas or allocasurinas) near McDermott Place on Lake Ginnindera about 10am this morning (14 October). At least 3 Nankeen night-Herons were roosting in the upper reaches of the trees: they seemed to 'stick' more than in previous years, unlike the eastern great egret which dispatched itself to the small island rather quickly.
