Great shot Julian. Did you notice the interesting primary moult. Alternate primaries #4, 6 & 8 are half grown with remainder being old showing considerable wear. Presumably moulting like this ensures adequate flight for hunting. Any comments Jerry.

Re: [canberrabirds] Odd Obs -- re searching for Painted Button  Quails

Tobias - I saw your Gerygone this morning.  Before that I flushed a Boobook out of the southern reveg block.  Half an hour later and back in the main reveg patch I went looking for the PBQs.  While staring at the ground intently so as to see it before flushing it  (great plan, but...) I managed to flush the same or another owl that exploded out of a small euc a metre from my left shoulder.  So I followed the owl to see if it was the same one ... lost the owl but almost immediately while distracted managed to flush a PBQ!   On my way out, just near the gate at the SE corner of the reveg (the usual entry point) two quails of indeterminate species but inside the reveg and near yet more platelets walked away as I approached and into the very thick acacia thicket.

On the upside, I did fluke a somewhat miraculous shot of the flushed boobook ...

Hi all,
This morning, while looking for the Painted Button-Quail at Cooleman Ridge (it didnt show, but there were plenty of platelets), I came across a White-throated Gerygone, my first of the season.
At school (Weston), I came across a hybrid Crimson/Eastern Rosella. I reckon these have got to be one of the most beautiful birds.
Also at school, a Caper White (the butterfly, not the bird).

Cheers
Tobias
