Molonglo Gorge is always a delightful place for a bush-walk but can often be dissapointing birdwise. (We visit there at least once a week in the warmer months but much less often in winter.) This morning was not in the disappointing category. Some of the highlights were: Yellow-tufted Honeyeater and Golden Whistler close to the carpark, Lyrebird heard calling high in the first gully less than 500m from the carpark (we have encountered them previously much further upstream in the gorge), Scarlet Robin (regular winter visitor) plus many of the year-round regulars (Eastern Yellow Robin, Spotted Pardalote, Brown Thornbill, White-throated Treecreeper, White-eared Honeyeater etc.). The mosses, lichens and small fungi along the upper track are also impressive at the moment.

Regards,
Leo.
