Dear Con,
I can answer part of your question about the current research at the
ANBG: Prof Andrew Cockburn from the School of Botany and Zoology at ANU
is conducting the research on the superb fairy wrens. This study has
been ongoing for many years and he is mainly interested in the sexual
selection of female fairy wrens and the genetic composition of the
populations in and around the ANBG. You can find more information on his
home page:

There was a Little Wattlebird near the CSIRO gate and a Crescent
Honeyeater in the lower Sydney Basin. Honeyeaters were down to Eastern
Spinebill, Little Wattlebird, Red Wattlebird and White-naped
Honeyeater. There was also a Grey Fantail.
There were several Superb Fairy-wrens and a White-browed Scrubwren
carrying colour bands, so the ANBG is keeping up its reputation as a
good bird study site. Does anybody know the purpose of the current set
of leggings?
Looked for but missed the Bassian Thrush.
Also noted was a mid-range marsupial browser tucking in.
